Re: Short Rotation Coppice

Thanks for the reply. The area I am considering is very wet, so I was leaning towards Alder anyway. It's interesting what you say about SRC as I'd got that impression too, it barely looks better than intensive arable farming in many ways, and I really don't like the idea of a field of hybrid clones!

Short Rotation Coppice

I'm interested in the concept of Short Rotation Coppice for woodfuel, but pretty much all the info I read points to using hybrid willows, which I'd rather avoid. There are plenty of mentions of trials going on for other varieties, but no results I can find, probably because they're recent. I know in...

Re: Subscribing

Just had a look and "Discourse" forum would work much better. You can import all the discussions from here so you wouldn't lose anything. It has social login, automatic notifications, plus weekly digest emails for those who visit less regularly. Much easier to navigate too. Plus it will in...

Re: Subscribing

Sorry, just seeing this!! Basically the subscribing system is pretty rubbish! You need to go to the forum section you want to subscribe to, for example this one is "All ForumsOtherWebsite/Forum Feedback" and then at the very bottom left you will see "Subscribe Forum". This forum ...

Atlantic hazel woods

It was interesting to read Toni's piece on coppicing in the latest RS journal. There was a sentence "one would never consider coppicing the Atlantic hazel woods". I assume this is for habitat and species reasons but as someone who's never been to these woods could someone shed more light o...

Re: Subscribing

I haven't used phpbb much really. I use (and would recommend) bbpress which is a Wordpress plugin so would integrate much better with the 1000 huts website, but anyway... The simplest way would be to add a forum announcement telling people how to subscribe to forums they are interested in. The way y...

Group Ownership of Woodland

Hi. I'm interested in any experience people have with group ownership of woodland, and what models are most suitable. I've done plenty of research, but not seen a clear path. Woodlands.co.uk was a good start: http://www.woodlands.co.uk/buying-a-wood/finance/joint-purchasing/ So my question is what i...

Re: Looking for like-minded folk

Hi Mark. I've set up a Facebook group for the idea so we can share areas we find. It seemed to make sense as everyone interested so far is on Facebook anyway. Here's the link - request to join and I'll add you.

Re: Looking for like-minded folk

Hi Ken,

Thanks for that. Yes I saw that woodland and looks lovely. It's a bit far south for us, but I would consider it if it fitted others needs. Are you on Facebook at all?
