Cruck Timber-Framed Building

Postby OWG Trustee » 30 Dec 2016, 10:30

Hi,

As a Scots emigree born in The Old Kilpatrick Hills (only a bicycle ride away from Carbeth) I have followed the development of the Thousand Huts campaign with much interest.

We are currently building a small cruck timber-framed barn in a woodland located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and think that this approach might well be suitable for establishing huts in the countryside.

We have photo documented the selection, felling, extraction and conversion of suitable trees together with the framing process needing to be followed to achieve a true vernacular result.

Should anyone require information or assistance then please get in touch.

Hi,

Yes indeed the project is moving forward with the cruck frame having been raised during November 2017.

We are now working on completing the roof including purlins, windbraces & rafters.

Checkout a recent picture of our cruck barn frame taken in a partially snow clad woodland setting.
